The last pay check

While retirement is in progress for a while already, the process of disconnecting from work and the company is not an abrupt but a rather gradual process. It is planned, has steps and milestones that are being worked through. Part of the personal decision process was an assessment of the financial situation and getting comfortable with the situation and the future sources of income to fund life and all the things that come with it. Today I received a final paycheck – the bonus payout for the last year. Since I still worked partially in my old position until the day of retirement I was qualified to receive a pro-rated bonus. Great to receive it and great to see that the team continues to do well. Still the absoluteness of “The last” was suddenly a moment of reflection and a moment needing again a mental walk through and reconfirmation that all assumptions that went into the original decision to retire and feel good about it, are still true.  So, it did give me pause for a while – still with no different outcome. Who would have thought it would be so hard!
